This title, written in French, is one of Rousseau's later and more puzzling books. The autobiographical piece consists of three dialogues between Rousseau and a "Frenchman" in which they discuss the bad reputation of an author named Jean-Jacques. Written from the perspective of Rousseau had he not written his works, but found them penned by Jean-Jacques. Rousseau's reflections illustrate he believed his works to be systematic in that they all share a philosophical theme. However, with the controversies surrounding Rousseau's writings and his sense of paranoia heightened, Rousseau, Juge de Jean-Jacques also shows the author's sense of persecution by critics, contemporaries and friends.
